Lorient beach

Lorient’s beach is prized by families for both its ‘natural’ feel and its tranquillity. The locals, who are referred to as Saint-Barths, call the bay “les petits bassins”, an expression implying a baby pool or shallow end, somewhere safe for young children – this is thanks to coral reef cays which create naturally protected bathing areas. At one end the waves are very flat and the sea is always fairly calm, resulting in ideal conditions for youngsters to bathe, whereas at the other end the waves roll straight in over the reefs which make it a superb spot for surfing. A perfect place to occupy all the family, it is accessed via a path which runs along the edge of the picturesque marine cemetery.
